Below is Congressman Wittman’s recent press release about his pro-life stance.
Friend-
Knowing that you share my commitment to upholding family values, I wanted to update you on what has been going on in Washington, DC this week.
Today, pro-life activists from around the country are in town for the March for Life—the nation’s largest annual pro-life event. The March for Life seeks to provide all Americans with a place to voice their support for the sanctity of life. Each year, the march coalesces at the National Mall and travels down Constitution Avenue until they reach the steps of the Supreme Court where a rally is held, allowing participants make their voices heard in opposition to the legality of abortion.
In addition to the march, this week the House passed H.R. 4712, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. H.R. 4712 amends the federal criminal code to require any healthcare practitioners to provide the same care who is present when a child is born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion to exercise the same degree of care as provided to any other baby born at the same age of development, and ensure that such child is immediately admitted to a hospital. Any individual who violates these provisions—with exception to the mother—is subject to a criminal fine, up to five years in prison, or both.
I am proud to have been an original cosponsor of this bill and I will keep you updated as it moves through the legislative process.
Please continue to contact me anytime an issue that concerns you is before Congress. It’s an honor to serve you and Virginia’s First District in the People’s House.
Sincerely,
Rob
