Last week, Rob Wittman wrote an oped that was published in The Daily Press. He highlighted how Virginia is the leader in the maritime industry as the #1 shipyard state in the nation. Given we have more than 65,000 industry jobs in Virginia, it’s critical to ensure an education pipeline that equips our workforce with the skills needed to advance Virginia’s focus on maritime jobs. Included in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act is legislation he introduced to direct resources for workforce training to our community and technical colleges. Virginia should continue to be the nation’s leader in both non-defense and defense-related maritime industries, and this legislation helps make that possible.
